Benefits of SEO

Perhaps you just recently aquired a website. You are now the proud owner of your own piece of web real estate. The ideas comes flooding in, you start putting together your first masterpiece and admire your new website. You're ready to share it, but wait, how will people find it!
You are now stepping into the world of search engine optimization! Search Engines are the great purveyors of web content for a global populace. One of the great things is that if you ask, they'll add to your their list! Getting your site submitted to any of the major search engines is a great start to getting your site reachable on a global scale. The concept is quite amazing when you really think about it, all you have to do is wait for someone to search the right words and your site is returned as an option. However this is a bit oversimplifying, and although the process is akin to 1 and done, it helps to go the extra mile to set it up right.
So why bother with SEO? Maybe your site is already showing up under the proper search terms. Maybe your site is pulling in a decent visitor count, or maybe you're simply content with the situation as is. If this is the case then perhaps there is nothing more you need to do. If this is not the case, and you're wondering right now what else you can do, then this is the article for you.
Assuming you've already submitted your site to Google and have submitted your site to bing, you've already made your first major steps. Just by doing this you've brought your site to a global playing field, allowing it to be discovered organically through these major search engines. The next steps are largely focused on providing original, engaging content. Some believe there are silver bullets and other 1 shot solutions, but akin to daily life, nothing beats time and hard work. If you provide quality content, content which you have created yourself, and you share that content with others, you're already in the right direction.
However don't go too far and start generating spammy content. It's all too easy to come across a page generator or too, or something with the promise of expanding your site's reach virtually overnight. Generally if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is; to keep it simple.
As the owner of a site and the provider of your site's content. It is also key that you structure your site in a logical fashion. A page regarding the sale of lamps should probably say something along the lines of "Lamps for Sale!" or "Buy Lamps Here", which is clear and to the point. Additional extending of a basic statement like this is perfectly fine as well! Just so long as you can look at it objectively and say that this is not ridiculous or questionable in terms of it's relation to the page's content.
Adding content regularly is an important aspect as well. Ultimately this is your strongest suite, as indirectly this provides your userbase. It's as simple as that. Users can organically reshare, post, talk, tweet, etc. about your site. Visitors can push your site out better than any other manner. If you provide content that your users enjoy and you do so consistently, you just might find yourself with a dedicated user base. A group of people who can share your site and help it grow via a legitimate means. Not only that but search engines will take note of their activity. Their sharing to other sites, and perhaps the linking of some of these users on their own sites to yours, will build up a substantially better ranking than you could artificially.
When it comes down to it, give the people what they want! In most cases they just might do the same for you.
